About

Dear Community Members, Partners, and Advocates,

It is both an honor and a responsibility to welcome you to the work of the NAACP Santa Rosa–Sonoma County Branch. Rooted in a legacy of justice and guided by the principle of “lifting as we climb,” our branch remains steadfast in advancing equity, dignity, and opportunity for Black communities and all who call Sonoma County home.

Our work is grounded in action. Across our committees and initiatives, we are actively addressing systemic inequities in key areas including economic sustainability, education, health, public safety, and voting rights—ensuring that every individual has access to the resources and protections necessary to thrive.

Over the past several years, we have led and supported transformative efforts that reflect both urgency and vision:

  • Health Equity & Wellness: Through the Sonoma County Black Therapy Fund, we helped provide thousands of culturally competent mental health services—marking a historic investment in Black wellness in our region.
  • Community Infrastructure: The opening of the H.I.V.E. (Home of Intentional Visioning for Equity) created a dedicated space for healing, education, advocacy, and connection—serving as a hub for community empowerment.
  • Housing & Economic Justice: We have advanced strategies to expand housing access, support Black-led development, and advocate for equitable economic opportunities across Sonoma County.
  • Education & Youth Engagement: From Know Your Rights initiatives to youth leadership development, we are investing in the next generation of changemakers and ensuring equitable access to education.
  • Historical Truth & Community Healing: Through the Sonoma County Slavery Historical Research Project, we are uncovering and elevating local histories that shape our present and future.

This work is made possible through strong partnerships—with local organizations, public agencies, and community members who believe in a more just and inclusive Sonoma County. Yet, we are clear: our work is far from complete.

We invite you to be part of what comes next.

There are many ways to engage:

  • Become a Member: Join a multigenerational movement committed to dismantling systemic racism and advancing civil rights. Your membership strengthens our collective voice and impact.
  • Collaborate With Us: Whether you are a community-based organization, funder, educator, or advocate, we welcome opportunities to partner on initiatives that advance equity and justice.
  • Participate & Lead: Attend our monthly meetings, contribute to our committees, and help shape the solutions our community needs.
  • Invest in the Work: Your financial support allows us to expand programs, sustain critical services, and respond to emerging needs with urgency and care.

The NAACP has always been powered by people—by those willing to stand, speak, organize, and build. In Sonoma County, we are continuing that legacy with intention, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

Together, we can ensure that equity is not an aspiration, but a lived reality.

We welcome you to join us.

In Service and Solidarity,
Kirstyne A. Lange
