Greetings Freedom Fighters and Friends,
As we transition from a busy summer into the fall, our branch continues to show up across Sonoma County—strengthening relationships, celebrating community leadership, and preparing our members for an important election season.
Over the past month, I was grateful to represent the branch at several community gatherings, including the Sonoma County Democratic Party’s Annual Luau, North Bay Black Chamber of Commerce Black Business Summit, Labor Day Breakfast, The LIME Foundation Gala, and Family Justice Center’s Annual Fundraiser. We also had the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of our Lifetime Member and California Assemblymember Chris Rogers. Each gathering offered another opportunity to connect with leaders and organizations doing important work throughout our region and to strengthen relationships that support our broader civil rights mission.
As we enter October, voter education and civic engagement will be a major focus. The League of Women Voters of Sonoma County is providing nonpartisan opportunities for voters to learn about statewide propositions and countywide measures ahead of the November 3 General Election. Our branch will build on these efforts with opportunities for members to better understand the ballot, including education around Measure L and other local and statewide measures. Our goal is to ensure our community has access to reliable information and understands how to participate fully in the election process.
On October 1, we will host our Know Your Rights in Education for Students and Caregivers workshop, continuing our commitment to equipping families with information about student and parent rights in Sonoma County schools. Then, at our October 5 Branch Meeting, we will welcome the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters for information about voting and the upcoming election. Our Political Action Committee will meet October 8 to discuss local propositions and conduct the branch’s internal process for determining positions on applicable ballot measures.
The months ahead call for participation. Whether attending an educational workshop, learning about the measures on your ballot, helping register and engage voters, joining a committee, or simply encouraging family and friends to make a voting plan, there is a role for everyone. Our responsibility is to provide our community with the information and opportunities necessary to make informed decisions and have their voices heard.
